About Me
Hi, I’m Joseph Mayo—founder of GigTax.
In 2020, I was furloughed after more than a decade in restaurant management. With a family to support, I turned to gig work and began delivering for DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub, Instacart, and several local apps.
Like many gig workers, I quickly realized two things:
- Taxes for the self-employed are confusing, and
- Gig work can become a real business with the right guidance.
After dealing with overpriced and unhelpful tax services, I joined a tax partner program where I learned transparent, client-focused tax prep. I earned my tax preparer license, trained specifically in gig-worker needs, and became licensed to file in all 50 states.
That experience inspired me to launch
GigTax—a tax prep service built
by a gig worker for gig workers.
